Sophia Efstratoglou–Todoulou is Professor Emeriti of the Agricultural University of Athens, Department of Agricultural Economics and Rural Development. She studied Economics at the Athens University of Economics and Business and carried out graduate studies, with a scholarship, at North Carolina State University, USA, where she received a MSc. degree (1967) and a Ph.D. in Economics, with specialization in Agricultural Economics (1970). She was employed as a Researcher at KEPE during 1970-1987, and taught at the Department of Economics, of the Kapodistriakon University of Athens, Microeconomics, Economic Development and Agricultural Economics (1974-1987).

In 1987, she was elected Associate Professor and then Professor (1992) at the Department of Economics and Rural Development of the Agricultural University of Athens. She served as Director of the Laboratory of Agricultural Economic Development (1992-2008) and Director of the Postgraduate Program "Integrated Rural Development" of her Department

Her research interests have been focused in the structural problems of agriculture and of rural areas, in the development of Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) and in the evaluation of European rural development policies and programmes. She also carried out research on methodologies and tools for planning and evaluation of rural development programmes and on the impact of agricultural policies on farm incomes and employment, with the use of quantitative and qualitative techniques.

She has participated as scientific responsible in a great number of European research programmes and studies, financed by the EU, and in European Networks. Her scientific works have been presented in international conferences and published in international journals, collective volumes. She is the author of books and textbooks in Agricultural and Rural development. She has taught undergraduate and postgraduate courses and has supervised Bachelor’s, Master's and Doctoral dissertations. She is an elected Member of the Hellenic Agricultural Academy and also Board Member of the same Academy. She is also Board Member of the Association “Friends of the Asia Minor Studies”.

Επιστημονική υπεύθυνη ερευνητικών προγραμμάτων και μελετών, ως Καθηγήτρια του ΓΠΑ (1987- 2008) και ως Ερευνήτρια του ΚΕΠΕ (1970-1987), σε θέματα και προβλήματα της ανάπτυξης του γεωργικού τομέα και των αγροτικών περιοχών, καθώς και σε θέματα απασχόλησης , σχεδιασμού και αξιολόγησης προγραμμάτων οικονομικής ανάπτυξης.

Επιστημονική υπεύθυνη και συντονιστής ερευνητικών προγραμμάτων και μελετών της Ευρωπαϊκής ¨Ένωσης σε θέματα αγροτικής οικονομικής ανάπτυξης, απασχόλησης και πολυαπασχόλησης, Κοινής Αγροτικής Πολιτικής, καθώς και προβλημάτων τοπικής και περιφερειακής αγροτικής ανάπτυξης.

Αξιολόγηση Ολοκληρωμένων Προγραμμάτων Ανάπτυξης και Διαρθρωτικών Πολιτικών του Αγροτικού Χώρου. Ex-post αξιολόγηση της Αναπτυξιακής Πρωτοβουλίας LEADER I και του LEADER II, και Σύνθεση της Ενδιάμεσης Αξιολόγησης του Leader+ και των Προγραμμάτων Αγροτικής Ανάπτυξης (2000-2006) για την Ευρωπαϊκή Ένωση.

Υπεύθυνη Συντονισμού Προγράμματος Εκπαίδευσης Γεωπόνων των Πυρόπληκτων Περιοχών (χορηγός Κοινωφελές Ιδρυμα Λάτση) και της Μελέτης Διερεύνησης της Πορείας Υλοποίησης της Μελέτης του ΓΠΑ για τις πυρόπληκτες περιοχές. Υπεύθυνη υπο-έργου για τους Νομούς Αρκαδίας και Λακωνίας της Μελέτης για την αποκατάσταση και ανάπτυξη του αγροτικού τομέα των δασών και της προστασίας περιβάλλοντος στις πυρόπληκτες περιοχές.

Επιστημονική υποστήριξη ως εμπειρογνώμων των Υπουργείων Γεωργίας υπό ένταξη χωρών (Σερβία, Βοσνία, Μάλτα, Σλοβενία, Βουλγαρία,) για το σχεδιασμό και την εφαρμογή των Προγραμμάτων Αγροτικής Ανάπτυξης (Rural Development Plan, SAPARD, LEADER). Συντονιστής Προγραμμάτων Διδυμοποίησης (Twinning Projects, PHARE) με το Υπουργείο Γεωργίας της Βουλγαρίας και της Σλοβενίας.

Εμπειρία σε θέματα σχεδιασμού και προγραμματισμού της ανάπτυξης, ως ερευνήτρια του ΚΕΠΕ και υπεύθυνη του Τμήματος Πρωτογενούς Παραγωγής. Συμμετοχή στην τεχνική επεξεργασία Προγραμμάτων Οικονομικής και Κοινωνικής Ανάπτυξης σε εθνικό και περιφερειακό επίπεδο (1970-1987). Tεχνική υποστήριξη Υπ. Γεωργίας, συμμετοχή σε επιτροπές και ομάδες εργασίας για θέματα αγροτικής πολιτικής, εναρμόνισης της αγροτικής πολιτικής προς την ΚΑΠ στα πλαίσια της προετοιμασίας για ένταξη.

Εμπειρογνώμων της Ευρωπαϊκής Επιτροπής για την αξιολόγηση ερευνητικών προγραμμάτων της Γενικής Δ/νσης Γεωργίας και Αγροτικής Ανάπτυξης της Ευρωπαϊκής Ένωσης. και της Γεν. Δ/νσης ¨Έρευνας (CAMAR, AIR, FAIR, 5th Framework, 6th and 7th Framework, Article 8 of Reg. EEC 4256/88).

Διεθνείς συνεργασίες και συμμετοχές σε Ευρωπαϊκά δίκτυα εμπειρογνωμόνων (REAPER, RUSSTIC, RURAL, GIRA.) σχετικά με τις εξελίξεις, προβλήματα, θεωρητικές και εμπειρικές προσεγγίσεις της αγροτικής ανάπτυξης, αξιολόγησης ολοκληρωμένων προγραμμάτων αγροτικής ανάπτυξης κλπ.

Συμμετοχή σε μεγάλο αριθμό συνεδρίων, σεμιναρίων στη χώρα και στον Ευρωπαϊκό χώρο με παρουσίαση ερευνητικών εργασιών. Μέλος επιστημονικής επιτροπής συνεδρίων

Κριτής εργασιών σε διεθνή και ελληνικά περιοδικά: και επιστημονικών μελετών του ΚΕΠΕ και της Αγροτικής Τράπεζας.
