Sophia Efstratoglou–Todoulou is Professor Emeriti of the Agricultural University of Athens, Department of Agricultural Economics and Rural Development. She studied Economics at the Athens University of Economics and Business and carried out graduate studies, with a scholarship, at North Carolina State University, USA, where she received a MSc. degree (1967) and a Ph.D. in Economics, with specialization in Agricultural Economics (1970). She was employed as a Researcher at KEPE during 1970-1987, and taught at the Department of Economics, of the Kapodistriakon University of Athens, Microeconomics, Economic Development and Agricultural Economics (1974-1987).
In 1987, she was elected Associate Professor and then Professor (1992) at the Department of Economics and Rural Development of the Agricultural University of Athens. She served as Director of the Laboratory of Agricultural Economic Development (1992-2008) and Director of the Postgraduate Program "Integrated Rural Development" of her Department
Her research interests have been focused in the structural problems of agriculture and of rural areas, in the development of Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) and in the evaluation of European rural development policies and programmes. She also carried out research on methodologies and tools for planning and evaluation of rural development programmes and on the impact of agricultural policies on farm incomes and employment, with the use of quantitative and qualitative techniques.
She has participated as scientific responsible in a great number of European research programmes and studies, financed by the EU, and in European Networks. Her scientific works have been presented in international conferences and published in international journals, collective volumes. She is the author of books and textbooks in Agricultural and Rural development. She has taught undergraduate and postgraduate courses and has supervised Bachelor’s, Master's and Doctoral dissertations. She is an elected Member of the Hellenic Agricultural Academy and also Board Member of the same Academy. She is also Board Member of the Association “Friends of the Asia Minor Studies”.
