She was born in 1943 and grew up in Heraklion, Crete, where she completed her High School studies.

Academic Career
I went through all the stages of my Academic career from 1970 up today, as Assistant, Curator, Assistant and Associate Professor and finally in 1995 Full Professor of Botany, at the Department of Biology, in Plant Biology of the University of Patras. Finally, after my retirement (2010), Ι was elected Emeritus Professor of the University of Patras.
I taught for more than 40 years to undergraduate students of the Department of Biology and Pharmacy of the University of Patras the courses Plant Morphology, Botany and Geobotany, as well as for about 20 years to postgraduate students of the Departments of Biology, Physics and Physics the courses on Plant Biodiversity, Biogeography and the Protection and Management of the Nature.
Education - Scientific career

- Full Member (2014-), Member of the Board (2016-2022) and General Secretary (2022-2024) of the Hellenic Academy of Agriculture
- Member (1995-2025) of the International Board and the Executive Council of "OPTIMA".
- Representative of Greece in the "Group of Specialists on Biodiversity and Bio-subsistence" (PE-S-BB), part of the "Steering Committee for the Conservation and Management of the Environment and Natural Habitats", of the Council of Europe (CDPE).
- Member (1995-present) of IUCN / SSC (The World Conservation Union / The Species Survival Commission).

- Το 2005-2009 υπήρξε τακτικό μέλος του Επιστημονικού Συμβουλίου του Εθνικού Ιδρύματος Αγροτικής Έρευνας (ΕΘ.Ι.ΑΓ.Ε.).
- Από το 2007-2025 Mέλος της Επιστημονικής Επιτροπής του “Ιnternational Foundation pro Herbario Mediterraneo”, με έδρα το Παλέρμο, Ιταλίας και Mέλος της "Commission of Herbarium Mediterraneum" της "OPTIMA".
- 2010-2013: Υπήρξε Εκπρόσωπος της Ελλάδας στις Ομάδες Εργασίας της Φάσης VIII (2009-2013), για την Δημιουργία Δικτύου στο πλαίσιο του European Cooperative Programme for Genetic Resources (ECPGR).
- 2010-σήμερα: Mέλος του Διοικητικού Συμβουλίου του Βοτανικού Κήπου του Πανεπιστημίου Κρήτης.
- 2014-σήμερα: Τακτικό Μέλος και από το 2016-2024 εκλεγμένο Μέλος του Διοικητικού Συμβουλίου της Ελληνικής Γεωργικής Ακαδημίας (Ε.Γ.Α.), στο Τμήμα Διαφόρων Επιστημών (Ελληνική Χλωρίδα - Βιοποικιλότητα).

- Co-editor (D. Phitos, T. Constantinidis & G. Kamari, 2009) of the two-volume project "The Red Data Book of Rare, Endemic & Threatened Plants of Greece", which was awarded in 2011 by the Academy of Athens.
- Co-editor (D. Phitos, G. Kamari, N. Katsouni & G. Mitsainas, 2015) of the book entitled "Mount Ainos of Kefalonia: History - Physiogeography - Biodiversity", which was published in Greek and English languages.
- Co-editor (Phitos D. & Kamari G.) since 2000-, of the scientific journal "Botanika Chronika".
- Co-editor (Kamari G. & al.) from 1990-present of the columne "Mediterranean Chromosome Number Reports" and "Mediterranean plant karyological data" in the annual scientific journal "Flora Mediterranea", volumes 1 to 33.
- Co-editor of 3 Educational University Books: “Plant Morphology” I & II (G. Psaras, A. Tiniakou & G. Kamari) and the book “Geobotanic Courses” (D. Phitos & G. Kamari, 2009 & 2023).
- Participation in numerous Greek and European research programs, in 26 of which as Scientific Officer.
- Participation in 90 Scientific Conferences / Meetings, in 30 of which I was member of the Organizing Committee and in 20 Chairman / Vice-Chairman / Secretary, in which we presented 88 Announcements, in 22 of them as a guest speaker.
AWARDS
- 1983: Silver medal of "OPTIMA" for the best publication of 1982.
- 2010: Honorary distinction from the University of Crete
- 2011: Award of the Academy of Athens for "The Red Data Book of Rare and Threatened Plants of Greece", 2009 (D. Phitos, Th. Constantinidis & G. Kamari).
- 2011: Honorary distinction from the University of Patras.
- 2013 Environmental Sensitivity Award "LIFE PROJECT - ECOPOLIS 2013" (ECOCITY).
- 2015: Honorary distinction from the Hellenic Botanical Society
- 2019: Silver medal of the Organization "OPTIMA" for the best scientific work of 2018 (E. Liveri, P. Bareka & G. Kamari).
- 2023: The Gold Medal of "OPTIMA". Is awarded every three years to a botanist who, by his or her activity, is considered to have made an outstanding contribution to the phytotaxonomy of the Mediterranean area.
