George Zervas graduated in 1974 with a BSc in Animal Sciences from the Agricultural University of Athens (Greece).
He was appointed as Research Fellow in 1978 at the Dept of Nutritional Physiology and Feeding of the Agricultural University of Athens, and from 1980 to 1983 he did his PhD at the Dept of Animal Physiology and Nutrition in Leeds University of UK. During his PhD he developed a method for trace elements supplementation of grazing ruminants, which was patented in 25 countries in 1983.
Professor (2001) and Head at the Dept of Nutritional Physiology and Feeding of the Agricultural University of Athens (2000-2018).
Rector (2004-2010) of the Agricultural University of Athens. President of the Hellenic Society of Animal Sciences ( 2008-2020), Vise President of the European Association for Animal Production (2008-2012), and President of the Hellenic Agricultural Academy (since 2018).
Reviewer in a number of Animal Science Journals, supervisor of PhD and MSc theses, reviewer of Ph.D. Thesis (Greece, Norway, Italy), evaluator of research projects (EU, Italy, Portugal, Greece), and coordinator and/or partner of many projects funded by the EU, Greek state organizations and the private sector.
His research interests are focused mainly on nutritional evaluation of feeds and feed additives in farm animals, organic animal production, effect of animal’s nutrition on products’ quality and climate change, food waste recycling, etc.
He has published over 166 scientific papers in peer-review journals, and he has presented his work in over 105 National and International Scientific Conferences.
He is the author of 5 text books, on ruminant physiology and nutrition, for undergraduate students, animal scientists, and vets.
