Upgrading and implementing mathematical models to increase nitrogen use efficiency of lactating dairy cows

The first objective of the project is to upgrade animal ‘Cornel Net Carbohydrate and Protein System’ and farm ‘Lifetime Nitrogen Efficiency’ based models.

Both models are field based maintaining a high degree of sophistication and they can provide an additional strategy to improve nitrogen use efficiency at a farm level. Therefore, the second objective is to implement upgraded models in dairy farms.

To make this possible, the collaboration with key players of the dairy farming, such as dairy farmers and feed industries and cooperatives , is needed in order to create a dynamic inter-sector network of knowledge transfer, with final objective to transfer this new knowledge , on low protein diets formulation model, into daily agricultural practice.
