Ο Φίλιππος A. Αραβανόπουλος είναι πτυχιούχος & Καθηγητής της Σχολής Γεωπονίας, Δασολογίας & Φυσικού Περιβάλλοντος του Αριστοτελείου Πανεπιστημίου Θεσσαλονίκης. Πραγματοποίησε μεταπτυχιακές σπουδές με Kαναδική υποτροφία στο Πανεπιστήμιο του Τορόντο από το οποίο έλαβε το διδακτορικό του δίπλωμα & μεταδιδακτορικές σπουδές με υποτροφία της Διεθνούς Επιτροπής Ενέργειας στα Πανεπιστήμια Ουψάλας & Στοκχόλμης.
H έρευνα του έχει χρηματοδοτηθεί από διεθνείς οργανισμούς (European Commission Framework Programs, International Energy Agency), καθώς & εθνικούς οργανισμούς της Ελλάδας (ΓΓΕΤ, ΥΠΑΑΤ, ΥΠΕΚΑ κα), του Καναδά (National Science & Engineering Research Council of Canada κα) & της Σουηδίας (NUTEK). Η τρέχουσα έρευνα του χρηματοδοτείται από τα προγράμματα H2020, LIFE+ & ΕΣΠΑ.

Είναι κριτής σε > 40 διεθνή επιστημονικά περιοδικά & μέλος της Εκδοτικής Επιτροπής σε 4 εξ αυτών (μεταξύ αυτών στο περιοδικό PLοS One). Έχει συμμετάσχει/συμμετέχει σε περισσότερα από 30 ερευνητικά έργα ως συντονιστής, ΕΥ, ή μέλος ερευνητικής ομάδας). Έχει προσκληθεί για να δώσει > 30 διαλέξεις σε παν/μια και συνέδρια σε Ελλάδα, Γερμανία, Ισπανία, Καναδά, Κίνα, Κύπρο, Σερβία, Σλοβενία, Σουηδία & Τουρκία.
Το δημοσιευμένο του έργο υπερβαίνει τις 200 εκτενείς εργασίες, από τις οποίες >100 σε έγκριτα διεθνή επιστημονικά περιοδικά & 20 κεφάλαια σε βιβλία διεθνών εκδόσεων.
Πρόσφατα κυκλοφόρησε υπό την εκδοτική του επιμέλεια το βιβλίο «Genetics and Genomics of Forest Trees» (MDPI Press).
